New MW-Scale Inverter Generation – For the Energy Infrastructure of Tomorrow.

Energy

Large-scale battery energy storage systems are playing an increasingly important role in modern energy infrastructure. Today, their function goes far beyond simply storing energy and making it available when needed. Modern energy storage systems can provide additional capabilities that actively contribute to grid stability and performance. The inverter is a key component in enabling these capabilities. With a new generation of MW-scale inverters, our technology partner KEHUA Tech is providing an important technological foundation for high-performance large-scale battery energy storage projects.

Grid Forming – When Energy Storage Actively Supports the Grid.

One major technological advancement is grid-forming functionality. Unlike conventional grid-following inverters, grid-forming inverters can actively establish and regulate voltage and frequency.

Operating as Virtual Synchronous Generators (VSGs), they can emulate key characteristics of conventional synchronous generators and thereby contribute to voltage and frequency stability, among other functions. This is particularly important in power systems with an increasing share of renewable energy and power-electronics-based generation.

As a result, large-scale battery energy storage systems are evolving from pure energy storage assets into active components of modern energy infrastructure.

Intelligent Integration into Virtual Power Plants.

Alongside grid-forming technology, intelligent system integration is becoming increasingly important. Large-scale battery energy storage systems can be integrated into Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and coordinated with other distributed energy resources.

This enables generation, storage and consumption to be managed across multiple systems in a coordinated manner, creating new opportunities for more flexible energy use and the integration of distributed energy resources.

TOR B Certification – An Important Step for Our Projects in Austria.

Before new technologies can be deployed within the Austrian power grid, they must meet the applicable technical and regulatory requirements.

An important milestone has now been reached: our partner KEHUA Tech has completed the first stage of TOR B certification for the new inverter generation as planned.

Further certifications are expected by the end of the year:

  • second stage of TOR B
  • TOR C
  • TOR D

These certifications will establish further important prerequisites for the standards-compliant grid integration of our ongoing and future large-scale battery energy storage projects in Austria.

Progress is also being made in grid-forming technology. The German Grid-Forming Certificate provides an additional important reference for our future projects and the deployment of grid-forming energy storage solutions.

Our Large-Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems as Part of High-Performance Energy Infrastructure.

At SCHMACHTL, we focus on energy storage solutions that do more than simply store energy. What matters is the interaction between high-performance battery storage technology, inverters, transformers, power distribution and intelligent control systems.

This enables us to deliver solutions tailored to the specific requirements of each project while providing the foundation for safe, reliable and high-performance energy infrastructure.

Are you planning a large-scale battery energy storage project? We support you from technical system design through to the implementation of a fully integrated solution.
