Successful delivery of the first oil-immersed power transformer for voestalpine Stahl Donawitz.
SCHMACHTL is pleased to announce the successful delivery of the first of two oil-immersed power transformers for voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH.

Both transformers were manufactured by our partner SGB Retrasib in Sibiu, Romania. With a rated power of 150 MVA each and a voltage transformation of 220 kV to 33 kV, they will form a key part of the electrical power supply for the electric arc furnace.
Due to its dimensions and weight, transporting the transformer required precise planning and close project coordination. The main transformer unit – without radiators and conservator – left the production facility in Sibiu on 23 June 2026, arrived at its destination on 1 July 2026 and was assembled at the end of July.

Each transformer measures approximately 11.38 metres in length, 5.12 metres in width and 7.35 metres in height. The safe execution of the heavy transport and subsequent assembly required close coordination between the manufacturer, customer, logistics provider, installation partner and all other parties involved in the project.
The transformers will play an important role in supplying power to the facility and will become a key component of the electrical infrastructure at the voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH site.
