Successful commissioning of SCHMACHTL EStore battery energy storage systems for an Austrian railway operator

Energy

SCHMACHTL is pleased to announce the successful commissioning of another battery energy storage project. For an Austrian railway operator, we integrated five SCHMACHTL EStore battery energy storage systems (total capacity 1.1 MWh / 500 kW) into the existing power supply infrastructure, helping to enhance system reliability and power resilience.

The battery energy storage systems were fully integrated into the customer's Energy Management System (EMS) as well as the control system of the company's own power plant.

The solution complements the existing emergency power concept. In addition to the installed diesel generators, the EStores provide an additional layer of resilience, ensuring that critical loads remain supplied even during power outages or grid disturbances. A key objective of the project is the rapid restoration of the power plant control system following a fault or grid failure.

Beyond emergency backup, the battery storage systems also provide greater operational flexibility. When required, they can be used as buffer storage, contributing to a stable, intelligent and efficient energy management strategy.

The project was implemented as a pilot application and establishes a promising foundation for the future integration of additional SCHMACHTL battery energy storage systems into the existing energy infrastructure.

We would like to thank our project partner for their trust and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration.
